Anime News Network – Shelf Life
TheCapt1701 | January 5, 2010Turns out this week my collection made the cut for the ‘Shelf Life’ article over at Anime News Network. It would be this week too since I have copious amounts of free time as I get ready for Anime Los Angeles in just 2 days. But it’s still pretty cool of course. The pics them selves are actually several months old and a number of minor changes have been made. Once I get a little more time I will update them with more current pics for the curious.
I also have a direct link to the pics on this site here as well.
More after ALA!
Enjoy!!
Hey there, You have really cool collection! I saw it on shelf life! I saw that you have a cool tin case for your chobits anime. You have the same looking kind of case for some of your other anime. I was wondering where on the world do you get those. I have been looking everywhere cause i think there so cool looking. Do you think you could point me in the right direction as to where i could get some of my own?
Amber, Hi. Thanks very much. Those cases are all from Paul Champagne. I have a link to his site to the left under recommended sites. He does a lot of anime as well as other movies and TV stuff. Send him an email asking for the anime list. If you want you can mention you got the link from me. Thanks again.
Enjoy!!
Hi,
I’ve seen your anime DVD collection when I was googling a while back. Saw a more thorough pics at the anime shelf. Since I moved into a new house I’ve been meaning to have shelves to display the 1000+ DVDs that I have collected over the years. The ones you have seem to be perfect. Are these custom built? If not, where did you get them from? Thanks and hope to hear from you soon :D.

Oz,
Hi. No, those are actually all from Ikea. It’s their “Billy” line. You can find more info here:
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/categories/range/10364/11683/
Or just check out the local Ikea (if you have one around that is).
A quick note on those. They don’t come with enough shelves to run a full eight rows (if you are doing DVDs or manga). But they do sell extra shelves by themselves so you can customize as to your specific needs. That’s what I did on most of these. Be prepared to spend a lot of time with those little tools that they pack in with them since these are all pre-manufactured build it your self bookcases. 😉
Hope that helps.
Enjoy!!
Hi Alec,
As I do daily, I visited Anime News Network, and I was just checking out the “Shelf Life” section. I was looking at your (awesome) anime collection pics; I LOVE the layout, shelving, and amount of titles, but most importantly, I couldn’t help but notice that you have a LOT of my anime box designs for Paul Champagne (even my most recent ones like Speed Grapher!). THANK YOU very much for purchasing all of those designs 🙂 Judging from the collection pics, you’re clearly one of Paul’s biggest customers XD Exactly how many of my designs do you have? (I think I’ve designed 86 total so far).

SonRyu,
Hi. Thanks for your note. Yeah, I have quite a few boxes from Paul (both anime and ‘main stream’ titles). Did a quick count and it comes out to 40 anime (maybe one or two more hiding behind some others 🙂 and 20 of the others.
Thank you for your great work in designing these great anime cases. They really do add a lot to the collection.
If I ever do find some quality source art for Elfen Lied, I’d love to re-visit that box idea.
Thanks again for efforts!
Enjoy!!
